- William and his father John were witnesses to a Letter of Reversion by Donald Makfersone dated 20 FEB 1534 in which they are cited as "John Cuthbert of the Auld Castlehill" and "William Cuthbert, his son and apparent heir". Also mentioned in the transaction is "William Cuthbert, burgess of Inverness". (GD176/34) It is suggested that William died within his father's lifetime, sometime between 1534-1548, and that he never inherited Castlehill as John's nephew, George Cuthbert, is named in a charter from Queen Mary in 1548 for the lands of Auld Castle Hill "granted to George Cuthbert, nephew and heir apparent of John Cuthbert of Auld Castle Hill and to his heirs male."
