- Eleanor (Ellen) Evans was born in 1847 in Rhuddlan, Flintshire, Wales, as the daughter of Thomas Evans. Her mother is unknown at this time.
Ellen has not be found in 1851. She as not been confidently identified in 1861. (See below.)
In 1868, at age 21, Ellen Evans and John Jones had a son, Daniel, three years prior to their marriage.
In May 1870, at age 23, Ellen Evans and John Jones had a son, John, who was recorded as being 11 months old in the 1871 census on 2 Apr 1871. His birth was not registered until Jul-Dec 1871, after his parents marriage.
In 1871, at age 21 (sic 24), Ellen was residing at 14 Legs Yard in Bolton, Lancashire, England, with her husband and their sons Daniel and John. Boarding with them were Robert and Rebecca Kilroy and George Smith. They are not known to be related.
On 2 July 1871, at age 24, Ellen Evans, daughter of Thomas Evans a mariner, married to 25-year-old, John Jones, at Manchester Cathedral in Manchester, Lancashire, England. They were both residing at 196 Hamilton Street (a row house located in Atherton on the outskirts of Bolton), Manchester, Lancashire, England, at the time of their marriage. They already had two children.
In 1881, at age 34, Ellen was residing at 27 Cardiff Street in Harpurhey, Prestwich, Manchester, Lancashire, England with her husband and their sons, John, William T., Daniel, and Richard. Her place of birth is given as Rhydham, Wales, however, no such place has been found. Likely this is a transcription error for Rhyddlan/Rhuddlan.
In 1891, at age 44, Ellen was residing at 16 Baythorpe Street in Little Bolton, Lancashire, England, with her husband and children.
In 1901, at age 54, Ellen Jones was residing at 97 Grasmere Street in Bolton, Lancashire, England, with her husband and children. Her place of birth was given as Rhylan, Flintshire, Wales.
In 1911, at age 64, Ellen Jones was residing at 42 Wilmot St in Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire, England, with her husband. They were residing in the home of their son-in-law and daughter James and Elizabeth Ann Pilling. Her place of birth was given as Rhyland, Wales.
Two possible occurrences for Ellen can be found in the 1861 census:
1. Ellen Evans, b: 1848 in Llanasa, Flintshire (about 5 miles east of Rhuddlan), working as a scullery maid in an inn owned by Owen Roberts, living in Rhuddlan. As she is only 13 it is presumed that she is orphaned.
2. Ellen Evans, b: 1849 in Rhyl (2 miles from Rhuddlan), living with her family in Llangelnwen, Angelsey, Wales. Father: Edward Evans is a brick maker. Mother: Jane. Siblings: Edward, John (Ellen's twin), Sarah, & William.
