On 8 Dec 1844, William Jones, a collier, residing in Llwynegrin, son of John Jones, a miner, married to Jemima Williams, residing in Mold, daughter of William Williams, a callier. Their ages were given only as "of full age." The marriage was witnessed by Evan Jones and Margaret Williams, presumably their siblings. Llwynegrin Lodge is located adjacent to a lead mine, about 2 km north of Mold and about 8 km south of Flint. In 1851 Jemima is found in Flint with her husband William Jones and their two boys, William and John. In July 1854, Jemima Jones married in Holywell, Flintshire, Wales to George Griffiths. In 1861 she is found in at 79 Duke Street in Flint as "Jemima Griffiths" with her sons, William and John Jones. Jemima's daughter, 3 year old Harriet Griffiths, is found nearby at 75 Duke Street in Flint residing with her 69 year old grandmother, Sarah Dean. In 1871, at age 52, Jemima Griffiths, twice widowed, was residing in Bolton, Lancashire, England, with her son, John Jones and daughter Harriet Griffiths. In 1881 a widowed Jemima Griffiths is found in Blackley, Lancashire, England with her 22 year old daughter, Harriet Griffiths. Jemima Griffiths has not been found in 1891. William was recorded as born 1822 in Port of Menteith and was employed as a farm labourer to James Bald, age 77, b Perth, Scotland. Also residing with them is an Alexander Stewart, b 1838 in Kincardine. The only matching birth in the Kincardine OPR is Alexander Stewart, b 22 OCT 1837, son of Alexander Stewart and Christian Gow. In 1861 William was residing in Muthill parish, Perthshire, Scotland (the exact address is not given) with his wife and the following children: Mary, Daniel, William, James, Jane and Alexander. William was employed as a coal merchant. William is not found in 1871, but his widow and daughters Mary, Jane, Isabella and Janet (Jessie) are found residing at 5th Division in Deanston, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland where his widow was working as a mill worker. William's last child, Janet, is shown in the IGI for Muthill with only her mother given, suggesting that William probably died in 1865 and Janet was probably born postumously. The extracts of minutes from the Balquhidder Kirk Session are below. They reveal an extremely gender-biased exercise of church discipline as Christian is compelled to appear before the Session three times for the sin of fornication, whereas Robert is only required to appear once. Robert Stewart is identified as being a servant for Christian's brother at Laggan in 1853. Her brother is Robert Stewart of Laggan. He has no servant names Robert Stewart residing with him in 1851 or 1861. This Robert is suspected as being Robert Stewart, bap 22 DEC 1823 in Immervuline in Strathyre, son of Peter Stewart in Immervuline. If so, then Robert's sister, Janet, was the wife of Robert Stewart, 2nd of Laggan. In 1861, at age 35, Christian Stewart was residing at 13 Callander Road in Strathyre Village, Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland, with her 7 year old daughter, Mary. Christian was employed as an agricultural labourer. Residing with her was her 83 year old aunt Margaret McLaren (born 1778 in Balquhidder. Believed to be born 6 Jan 1777 in Balquhidder to Duncan McLaren and Girsel Lindsay.) In 1871, at age 45, Christian Stewart was residing at Immereon in Glenbuckie, Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland, working as a domestic servant for her brother, John Stewart. Her 17 year old daughter Mary was living with them. On 12 Mar 1881, at age 56, Christian Stewart died at Laggan in Strathyre, Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland. ----------- Balq. 9 Apr 1854 The Kirk Session met and constituted. Present: the Rev. McGregor, moderator, Messers Hugh McGregor and John Carleton, elders. Compeared Robert Stewart. The minutes of 9 April having been read over to him and being interrogated admitted having received a letter from the Clerk with an extract of said minutes and acknowledges that he had been guilty of the sin of fornication with Christian Stewart and was the father of her child.
