It is presumed that she died prior to 1854 and possibly their son Alexander too, as he has not been found in later census records. The loss of his wife and son may have been the impetus for Alexander to emigrate. He settled in Wardsville in Middlesex County, Ontario, not far from his brother Andrew. It's not known if this is the same David Pattie, but it fits and no conflicting data has been found. In the 1900 census, David's son, John, living in Dallas, Texas, USA, was residing with his step-sister Bettie (surname illegible) suggesting that David remarried after Mary Ord's death and had a child by his second marriage by 1883.
