| Janet is presumed to have died prior to the birth of her same-named sister in 1794. | Stewart, Janet (I16765)
| Janet is recorded in family records as having been born "near Cardross". This is a strange reference as Cardross is nowhere near Glenfinglas. No record of her birth has been found in the Callander OPR. | Stewart, Janet (I16778)
| Janet is recorded in her husband's 1708 testament as being the wife of the late Alexander Stewart in Duart, the daughter of the late Alexander Stewart in Gartnafuaran, and the mother of a minor son, also named Alexander Stewart. Her father, "Alexander Stewart in Gartnafuaran" is contemporary with Alexander Stewart, 8th of Gartnafuaran, but they are not the same persons, as Alexander, 8th of Gartnafuaran, was still alive in 1708, whereas Janet's father was described as already deceased by that point. | Stewart, Janet (I16772)
| Janet is recorded in the Buchanan of Auchmar History as having married (probably ca. 1600) to George Buchanan, 3rd of Auchmar. ?George Buchanan 3rd in Auchmar, married in his brother?s lifetime Janet Stewart, daughter to Andrew Stewart, who had a beneficial tack [esteemed in these days, equivalent to heritage] of the lands of Blairgarie, and some other lands, from the Earl of Murray, in Strathgartney, and in the Parish of Callander; he was also the Earl?s Baillie in these parts. That family is now (1728) represented by Alexander Stewart [8th] of Gartnafuaroe in Balquhidder parish." Their son, Patrick was married in 1629, thus his mother must have been born ca. 1580 or earlier. | Stewart, Janet (I16723)
| Janet is shown in Duncan Stewart's 1739 History of the Stewarts as having married Duncan Stewart of Glenogle. There was only one Duncan of Glenogle who would be contemporary with Janet. Thus we show that Janet Stewart married Duncan McRobert Stewart, 2nd of Glenogle. | Stewart, Janet of Ardvorlich (I16805)
| Janet McDiarmid was the illegitimate daughter of Daniel/Donald McDiarmid and Euphemia McGregor. Euphemia and her family lived in Glentarken, Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland, and then moved to Rannaig, Glen Ogle, Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland, where John Stewart and his parents lived. It is not certain that she is the Janet McDiarmid that John married but she matches the age of his wife in the 1841 and 1851 census and she was i the right place at the right time. 1790 Janry 3rd Daniel McDiarmid in E. Ardveich and Euphan McGrigor in E. Glentarkin had their Daughter born in fornication Bapd Janet. (Comrie OPR) Comrie 15th March 1789 Euphan McGrigor an unmarried woman in Ester Ardveich with child. 4011 | Janet Stewart is shown in the Kilmadock OPR as born in 1670 in Ballachallan. MacGregor says that Janet Stewart married "Walter Graham of Mondowie and had issue." Walter later acquired the property of Nether Glenny. Information on Graham of Nether Glenny is submitted by Belinda Dettman. Nether Glenny is located in Port of Menteith parish overlooking the north shore of the lake of Menteith itself. However, the children of this family are recorded as baptised in neighbouring Aberfoyle parish. | Stewart, Janet in Ballachallan (I16806)
| Janet Stewart is the "Mrs. Stewart of Laggan" mentioned in the following reference from The Ardvorlich History (Glenfinglas Section): "John [Stewart] of the Grodich married Mary, a daughter of Duncan Stewart, son of John Bhan Stewart. This John married a Caleb [Stewart] sister of Mrs. Charles Stewart and Mrs. Stewart of Laggan." According to Mrs Stewart of Milton’s account: “There was a crofter in Strathyre named Stewart. He had three daughters: Margaret who married John (my cousin) son of John Stewart, Grodich; Marjory married Charles who died in Callander, and Janet married Stewart farmer in Laggan. Janet was a "Caleb Stewart", that is, a descendant of Branch III of the Stewarts of Glenogle. Janet's grandfather's half-brother was Caleb Stewart in Laggan. In 1851 Janet's uncle, Daniel Stewart, is shown residing with the family in Laggan. Daneil (Donald) is the brother of Janet's father, Peter Stewart of Immervouin. --------- Alternate family based on 1741 census: John STEWART (b abt 1771) and Janet MCNAUGHTAN (b abt 1791) in Lianach and Immereoin of Glenbuckie. m. 27 DEC 1806 in Balquhidder (John of Balquhidder parish and Janet of Kilmadock parish) Peter STEWART, b. He married on 16 OCT 1860 in Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland to Marjory STEWART b: 19 APR 1832 in Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland, daughter of Peter Stewart of the Caleb Stewarts in Strathyre (a cadet of the Stewarts of Glenogle). The 1881 census shows Charles living on Glenfinglas Road, Auchnahard. The Ardvorlich History says that Charles married Marjory Stewart who was as “a Caleb, John of Grodich’s sister”. The Caleb Stewarts were a cadet branch of the Stewarts of Glenogle. Marjory was actually sister-in-law of John Stewart of Grodich rather than his sister, but 19th century Scottish custom did not differentiate between sister and sister-in-law. According to Mrs. Stewart of Milton’s Account, Charles was a son of Alexander Stewart in Auchnahard. She says later: “Charles Stewart before mentioned (brother of John and James in the Braes of Balquhidder) died in Callander.” John STEWART , in Grodich b: ABT 4 AUG 1818 in Grodich, Glenfinglas, Callander, Perthshire, Scotland. He remained in Glenfinglas and is found as late as 1881 still residing in Grodich. He married on 2 DEC 1856 in Laggan, Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland to Margaret STEWART b: 25 FEB 1828 in Immervuline, Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of Peter Stewart of the “Caleb Stewarts” of the Glenogle Branch. | Stewart, Janet in Immervoulin (I16733)
| Janet Stewart was born in 1830. Her name is incorrectly recorded (or transcribed) as John Stewart. Her exact residence is not recorded, but is presumed to be Rossburn Lane on the Blair Drummond Moss in Kincardine, Perthshire, Scotland. | Stewart, Janet (I16754)
| Janet Stewart's date of birth is an estimate based on the fact that she was known to be a widow by 1500. Her place of birth is not known for sure, but is presumed to be the family estate of Baldorran. Janet Stewart, to whom her father conveyed the lands of Lettir on 4 July 1493. She married firstly prior to 9 November 1500, to Andrew Balfour, eldest son and heir of James Balfour of Boquhapple. Andrew died sometime before 9 Novemeber 1500 at which time his brother unsuccessfully attempted to claim her lands of Torrie, Portbank and Isle of Loch Venacher. Her claim was upheld by the Lords of Council on 9 November 1500. (Gordon MacGregor, The Red Book of Scotland) From this information we can deduce that she was born probably no later than 1480. She married secondly, by 4 June 1506, to John Kinross of Kippenross when she granted her share of the lands of Lettir to Archibald MacLauchlan in Strathgartney. They had children. (Gordon MacGregor, The Red Book of Scotland) | Stewart, Janet (I16807)

| Janet was already four months pregnant when she married Duncan Stewart, however she was pregnant by another man. The birth registration of her illegitimate son, John Stevenson, on 7 JAN 1867 in Fannyside Mill, Cumbernauld, Dunbartonshire, Scotland, reads: "Janet Stewart, maiden name Stevenson, wife of Duncan Stewart, miller or mason, to whom she was married 13th August 1866 but who she declares is not the father of the child." They father's name is difficult to read but appears to be something like "Larset" Stevenson. |
| Janet's birth is found in the IGI for Muthill parish with only her mother given as "Janet Stewart". Census records confirm this to be Janet, daughter of Janet Stewart nee McFarlane. As her mother is shown widowed in 1871 and 1881 this would suggest that her father, William, died in 1865 and Janet was born posthumously. Janet ("Jessie") is found in 1871 residing in at 5th Division in Deanston, Kilmadock, Perthshire, Scotland with her widowed mother and sisters Mary, Jane and Isabella. Janet is found in 1881 residing in Deanston with her sister Isabella. | Stewart, Janet (I16811)
| Janet's birth is given in family records as 16 JUL 1784 in Duart. It is believed that Janet married firstly to Neil BRUCE (no record) in Drymen, Stirling, Scotland and had one son, John Bruce, who is referenced in Janet's brother's John's 1867 will as a "nephew living in Glasgow." Family records confirm that Janet married (presumably secondly) to William Campbell. It is also possible that her first son, John Bruce, was illegitimate -- as the OPR has not been consulted. Janet resided at "The Park" in Drymen, Stirling with her second husband and children. | Stewart, Janet (I16779)

| Janice's middle name comes from her grandmother's surname and, in Gaelic, means "life". Janice and her husband Charles have not been found in later census records. No children have been found from their marriage. | Cuthbert, Janice Beith (I3450)
| Jannet was born in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland. She is the only one of her siblings to be born in Crieff parish. It is believed that her mother was from Crieff, so this would explain the unusual birth location for Jannet. Jannet's birth conflicts chronologically with her brother Archibald. It's possible that they were twins and that there was a delay in the baptism of one of them. Or one of the entries may contain an error. While Jannet's baptism indicates that she was born in 1809, the Moss Census of 1814 shows her as 7 years old, thus born in 1807. She is shown as the same age as her brother James. Jannet immigrated as a child in 1818 with her parents to Quebec, Canada. In 1825, Janet's father, Duncan Stewart is shown residing in a house with 11 occupants: 2 under the age of 6 (Charles 6 and Daniel 3); 2 between 6-14 (John 13 and Peter 9); 2 between 14-18 (Archibald 16 and Jannet 16); 2 males between 18-25 (Alexander and James D); one male over 60 (Duncan 50); one single female between 14-45 (Mary); one married female between 14-45 (unknown); and one married female over 45 (Agnes McGregor). Also residing in Dundee at the time was Robert Stewart with one child under 6, one male 18-25, and one married female between 14-45. Robert is of no known relation to Duncan. In 1851, Jannet was residing in the home of her brother, Daniel Stewart, in St. Anicet, Huntingdon, Quebec, Canada. In 1861, Jannet was residing in the home of her brother, Daniel Stewart, in St. Anicet, Huntingdon, Quebec, Canada. In 1871, at age 60, Jannet was residing in the home of her brother, Daniel Stewart, in St. Anicet, Huntingdon, Quebec, Canada. Jannet has not been found in the 1881 census. Jannet never married and resided with her brother Daniel and his family for her entire adult life. She died at the age of 76 in St. Anicet, Huntingdon, Quebec, Canada and is buried with her family at Isle of Skye Cemetery, Dundee, Huntingdon, Quebec, Canada. 04-22-1886 Janet Stewart, died at the residence of her sister in law, Mrs. D. Stewart, of St Anicet, Aged 77 years. (The Gleaner newspaper, Huntingdon, Quebec, 1886) | Stewart, Jannet (I16834)

| Jannett/Jane Stewart was only 13 years old when her father died. In 1763, Jane's uncle, Patrick Stewart, dictated a detailed family tree, which was subsequently added to by Dr. James Caraway in 1789, in which Jane is described as "Jane married John Stewart, a Scotchman, and lives near Woodville in the State of Mississippi, has no children [as of 1789]." Janet Stewart married John "Jock" Stewart, a half-pay British Captain. As Jock was a British Loyalist and as their first child was born in Scotland in 1783, it seems likely that they fled to Scotland after the the American Revolution and did not return to the USA until it was safe to do so. In 1801, her husband is believed to be the John Stewart residing in Montgomery, Tennessee, USA, on 100 acres, next to her brothers, Charles, Duncan and James. | Stewart, Jannett (I22005)

| Jean and her husband and children are not found in Mitchell's Monumental Inscriptions. Jean had relations and two natural children with William Strang after her marriage to William Paterson. It is presumed that William Paterson died prior to her relationship with William Strang. She was in Craigughty and he was in Miltown at the time of their relations. Following the birth of her two natural children, Jean is repeatedly cited in the Callander Kirk Session minutes for various transgressions in which she is identified as Mrs Paterson alias Jean Stewart, sister of Walter Stewart at Bridge of Turk. | Stewart, Jean (I25235)
| Jean Buchanan was the sister of Francis Buchanan who was executed for the alleged murder of Alexander Stewart, 10th of Glenbuckie, in 1746. | Arnprior, Jean Buchanan of (I1785)

| Jean is found in 1841 residing at Nether Gaval with her parents. She is believed to have had relations with John Jaffray by whom she had a child, Alexander Jaffray, who is believed to be the Alexander "Raffan" incorrectly transcribed in the 1851 census living in Milltown of Gaval with his grandfather, Alexander Stewart. | Stewart, Jean (I17145)
